The 2nd master plan on air environment management of metropolitan areas, which was established by analyzing and evaluating the results of the 1st air improvement plan for metropolitan areas (2005 ~ 2014) and reflecting the changed conditions throughout the years. In the detail, the plan includes PM-NOx reducer installation program, replacement of three-way catalytic converter and engine replacement as a new reduction program.
This new reduction program is more focused on reducing nitrogenous compounds (NOx).
Installation NOx Reducer
The existing DPF and SCR device were added to reduce PM from a large-scale diesel-fueled vehicles such as diesel-fueled bus and trucks with at least 6,000 cubic centimeter displacement manufactured before 2008 but failed to meet EURO 3 emission standards. Therefore, the emissions of nitrogenous compounds in addition to PM are also to be reduced as well. In order to reduce nitrogenous compounds (NOx) in PM·NOx reducer, the Urea should be constantly replenished. Without replenishment at a right time, it would be hard to reduce the target compounds (NOx), which could be of performance degradation.
SCR : A reducer that converts emissions to nitrogen (N2) and steam (H2O) using Urea

Replacement of three-way catalytic converter
Unlike the currently on-going emission reduction program focused on the diesel-fueled vehicles, this program aims to replace the three-way catalytic converters installed on the old gasoline or LPG-fueled vehicles to reduce the emissions.
This converter is designed to convert the unpurified emissions, particularly NOx, HC and COx to detoxified emissions in gasoline or LPG-fueled vehicles.

Replacement of Engine in Construction Machines
This program especially targets the deteriorated old construction machines. They have been operated for a longer time than general vehicles due to their high prices and distinct characteristics.
In despite of excessive pollutants emitted from these old construction machines, they have been stayed in dead zone so far due to no proper reduction system has set up. Therefore, this new emission reduction program aims to replace the old engine to a new one.
This reduction program is to replace the old engine with the newest engine in construction machines to change the emissions level to the newest.
